How to Unclog an Ice Maker Water Line?

In the summer, you need your commercial ice machine working at optimal levels to meet the customers’ needs. Any disruptions in the ice machine’s performance can greatly impact your beverages’ quality and visual appeal. Although there are many reasons your ice machine may be slow, if it’s not producing ice or the size of ice is smaller than normal, your ice machine’s water line may be clogged. The good news is that most of the time, the method of unclogging the water line is simple. Here are a few simple steps to unclog and flush your ice:

Preliminary Steps

First, turn off the electricity and the water before you begin working on the appliance. Unplug the ice machine and turn off the water valve. The valve should be located at the rear of the ice machine. Unplug the refrigerator’s water line. Place a bucket beneath the cold water connection to collect any water falling from the pipe.

Troubleshooting

There are several potential causes of blockage in the water line. Here are some of them:

Clogged Filters

Bacteria in the water line can clog your ice machine. The water filter in the commercial ice machine strains pollutants from the tap water that runs through the pipes. The ice maker water line can become blocked or backed up with germs if the filter is not replaced regularly. Purchase a new filter for your model and change it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Kinks in the Pipe

Check for kinks in the hose by running your hand along the water line. If a kink is obstructing water flow, straighten the water line and make necessary arrangements to keep it straight so that the water line doesn’t form kinks again.

Keep the Water Line Straight to Avoid Kinks

Ice In the Water Line

Inspect the water line thoroughly and look for any cold lumps within the plastic pipes. If you feel a cold, hard lump, it means some ice deposits are clogging your water line. Allow the ice to thaw before pushing it out.

Check Water Inlet in the Ice Machine

If there is no ice in the water supply line, it might be due to ice obstructing a pipe within the freezer. If this is the case, defrosting the ice machine will solve the problem. Keep your ice machine powered off until all the ice melts. Clean the inside of the ice machine thoroughly before turning it back on again.

Turn on Your Ice Machine and Check Water Flow

When you’re done with troubleshooting the ice machine, reconnect the water supply and turn it on. Now check the water flow to ensure the problem has been resolved. If the water line is unclogged, give your ice machine at least 12 hours to make ice. However, if the problem persists, contact us for repair and maintenance services.
